What Combat Engineers Do

 

Operations report for the month of November 1944:

1. Road Blocks Cleared: 10 log cribs, 29 abatis, 1 anti-tank trench 1, 2 cheval defise, 2 mine blocks, 3 log wall, 8 shell craters.

2. Minefields Cleared (Enemy): 144 ramp mines, 246 Shu mines, 42 "S" mines, 10 tellermines, 2 300 pound aerial bombs; 6 minefields marked but not removed

3. Bridges Built: 1 footbridge, 5 timber trestle, 40 all class

4. 150 miles of roads swept for mines: mines removed = 27 R mines, 51 Teller mines, 5 kil charges, 500 pound bombs, 4 170 mm shells, 750 pounds of dynamite, 19 "S" mines, 5 shu mines.

5. Work done clearing Raon L'Etape for booby traps: removed 2 500 pound bombs, 20 tellermines, 2 5 pound charges, 12 small aerial bombs, 3 booby traps, 6 mortar shells, 290 pounds dynamite, filled 6 shell craters, cleared streets of rubble, built 2 timber trestle bridges

6. Operated gravel pit

7. Delivered 431,575 gallons of water for 100th Division

8. 803 signs painted to mark minefields

9. Built rest center at Rambervillers for use of 100th Division troops
